9. Assumptions and Open Inputs

This idea came from the 30 Sept 2026 micro-SaaS idea catalog (C3). No founder brief was supplied. There's no stated team, hours per week available, price, geography or traction. Here's what I assumed, and how the verdict changes if each assumption is wrong.

9.1 Assumptions made

InputAssumption usedIf actually different…
Source toolAirtable, chosen from a 14-source scan (02)If you have deep access to another tool's users (you're a ClickUp consultant, say), that tool's odds can beat Airtable's despite the incumbent.
Hours per week availableTwo columns: ~15 hrs/week, and full-timeUnder 10 hrs/week: multiply the ~15 hrs/week odds by ~0.6. Reliability and videos are what slip.
SkillsYou can build a Node/TypeScript backend with OAuth and queuesIf you'd hire the build, add ~$8–15k and a quarter's delay. The odds drop by about a third.
Price$19 / $39 / $79, blended ~$32At Sync2Sheets' ~$22 blended, every "customers needed" figure rises ~45%.
Churn5–7% a monthAbove 8%, the $5k level needs more trials than Airtable search likely gives.
Install-to-paid~0.2% cumulative (Sync2Sheets, including its free years), better with a trial-only funnelThis is the least certain number in the model. Measure it by day 90.
GeographyGlobal listing, USD pricing, mostly English-speaking buyersDoesn't change the product. Paddle handles tax.
StageIdea. No code, no users.Any existing Airtable client base or audience changes the day-30 checkpoint entirely.
FundingNone, and none neededDoesn't change the plan.

9.2 Inputs that would change the verdict most (please supply)

  1. Hours per week available, and for how many months.
  2. Can you build and run the sync backend yourself? Which stack?
  3. Access to Airtable users: consultants, teams, communities you're already in, or an existing audience.
  4. Any existing product, audience or channel (a YouTube channel, newsletter or community role) that could bring the first 30 trials.
  5. Your "good outcome" number: $3k, $5k or $10k MRR. The ladder says these are very different bets.
  6. Appetite to sell the business at month 24–36, or to run it long term.

9.3 Definitions used throughout

  • MRR: monthly recurring subscription revenue, with annual plans divided by 12.
  • Paying customer: one paying subscription (usually one team or one Google account).
  • Churn: monthly logo churn among paying customers.
  • Install: a Marketplace install count, which is cumulative and includes free and domain installs.
  • Tier A / Tier B: see 01.
  • Plateau MRR: new payers a month × ARPU ÷ monthly churn.
