Start this week

  1. Tell me your hours per week available, whether you can build the sync worker yourself, and whether you know any Airtable consultants or teams running on Airtable.
  2. Install and test the current Airtable options: AirTable 2 Google Sheet Sync, Coupler.io (free), a Whalesync trial and Unito's trial. Note where each breaks: linked records, attachments, deletes and API usage.
  3. Post in the Airtable Community and r/Airtable: "How do you get Airtable data into Google Sheets today?" Book 10 calls from the replies.
  4. Check the name "SheetBridge": USPTO/EUIPO, the .com and .app domains, and Marketplace listing names.

Checkpoints and kill gates

Decide in advance what counts as on track. Missing a checkpoint means changing the buyer or the offer, not adding features.

  1. Day 30

    ~15 hrs/week

    15 Airtable-team calls done. 5 teams paying for a hand-built sync ($39+).

    Full-time

    15 Airtable-team calls done. 5 teams paying for a hand-built sync ($39+).

    If you miss it

Try Airtable consultants as the buyer, once. Missing twice: switch to the fallback source (ClickUp, as a two-way #2) or stop.

  2. Day 75

    ~15 hrs/week

Google verification passed. Listing live. 30 trials, 6 self-serve payers.

    Full-time

Google verification passed. Listing live. 30 trials, 6 self-serve payers.

    If you miss it

Rewrite the listing and videos once. If it's still under 3 payers at day 100, stop.

  3. Day 90

    ~15 hrs/week

    15 paying teams, zero data-loss incidents, trial-to-paid ≥15%

    Full-time

    15 paying teams, zero data-loss incidents, trial-to-paid ≥15%

    If you miss it

Cut to one-way sync plus scheduled snapshots only, and fix onboarding.

  4. Month 6

    ~15 hrs/week

$1k MRR. Churn ≤7%. ≥70% of trials organic. Rating ≥4.5.

    Full-time

$1k MRR. Churn ≤7%. ≥70% of trials organic. Rating ≥4.5.

    If you miss it

Pivot A: Airtable → Looker Studio / BigQuery reporting (same engine). Pivot B: ClickUp as a second, cheaper two-way option.

  5. Month 12

    ~15 hrs/week

    $2.5k MRR. ≥40% annual. 5 consultant partners.

    Full-time

    $2.5k MRR. ≥40% annual. 5 consultant partners.

    If you miss it

Stop adding features. Fix churn and ranking. Holding a profitable $2–3k is a valid outcome.

  6. Month 18

    ~15 hrs/week

    $4k MRR

    Full-time

    $4k MRR

    If you miss it

Decide on the second source on the same engine, only if Airtable trials have flattened for 3 months.

  7. Month 24

    ~15 hrs/week

    $5k+ MRR (on-plan). $10k is the stretch.

    Full-time

    $5k+ MRR (on-plan). $10k is the stretch.

    If you miss it

Above $5k with growth: add the second source. At $2–5k: run it profitably, or sell it (Acquire.com median ~3.9× annual profit). Below $1k: stop.

Do

  1. 1.Pick Airtable as the only source for 12 months. Sell one job: "your Airtable base, live in a Google Sheet, both ways."

Target: Every listing line, screenshot and video says "Airtable ↔ Google Sheets"

Why: Airtable has no native Sheets sync (it offers a one-time import only). The only dedicated add-on (3K+ installs) is free, rated ~2 stars, and was last updated Sept 2024. Jira, HubSpot and Linear have native syncs, and ClickUp and Notion have strong incumbents.

  2. 2.Build two-way sync with conflict safety from v1: field-level diff, "last edit wins" with a conflict log, soft-delete only, and a one-click restore of the last 7 days

Target: Zero data-loss incidents. Every write-back is reversible.

Why: Two-way is what a Coupler.io Starter plan ($24–32/mo, daily refresh) doesn't give you. It's also where a single bug destroys trust.

  3. 3.Make sync quota-aware on Airtable's Team plan. Pull incrementally with a last-modified filter, and never re-scan whole tables. Show the monthly API use in the sidebar.

Target: Under 15% of a Team workspace's 100,000 monthly API calls at default settings

Why: Airtable caps Team workspaces at 100,000 API calls a month, shared with every other integration, and slows them to 2 requests/sec after that. A naive 15-minute full scan can burn the quota in days. This is a real technical edge over lazy clones.

  4. 4.Run sync server-side, not in Apps Script. The add-on is a sidebar for setup, and the sync runs on a small hosted worker (Sync2Sheets uses Firebase).

Target: p95 sync lag under 2× the plan interval

Why: Apps Script caps: 6 min per run, 90 min/day of trigger time on consumer accounts, 20 triggers per user per script.

  5. 5.Trial only, no free plan, and a price that matches team budgets: Starter $19/mo or $190/yr (one-way, 3 tables, hourly, 10k records). Pro $39/mo or $390/yr (two-way, 15 tables, every 15 min, 50k records). Team $79/mo or $790/yr (unlimited tables across bases, every 5 min, 3 Google users, audit log). 7-day trial, no card.

Target: Blended ≥$32. Trial-to-paid ≥15%. ≥40% of payers on annual by month 12.

Why: Moving from freemium to trial-only took Sync2Sheets from ~15 to 40+ paid signups a month and cut churn. Whalesync's two-way starts at $40/mo for 2,000 records, so Pro at $39 with 50k records is a clear offer.

  6. 6.Request the narrowest Google scopes. Use drive.file (non-sensitive) plus the current-sheet scope if server-side writes work with them. Otherwise request spreadsheets (sensitive) and pass verification before launch. Never request full Drive.

Target: Verification approved before the public listing

Why: Sensitive scopes need a verified domain, privacy policy, demo video and justification. Restricted scopes (full Drive) add an annual third-party security assessment.

  7. 7.Sell before you build. Set up the sync by hand (a script or a Make scenario) for 5 teams, for a fee.

Target: 5 paying by day 30

Why: It proves Airtable teams pay for this, and it shows which field types break first.

  8. 8.Get your customers through search and video, for free: a Marketplace listing optimised for "Airtable", "sync" and "two-way"; one YouTube demo per use case (inventory, content calendar, CRM, hiring); Reddit and Airtable Community answers; and SEO pages like "Airtable to Google Sheets", "Airtable to Looker Studio" and "share Airtable with people without seats".

Target: ≥70% of trials from organic sources by month 6

Why: These were Sync2Sheets' channels at $0 paid. BudgetSheet names Marketplace search and SEO as its main channels.

  9. 9.Recruit Airtable consultants as a channel: a free partner account, a 20% recurring referral, and a "powered by" link in the client's sheet

Target: 5 active consultant partners by month 9

Why: One consultant brings 5–20 client bases. It's the "talent manager" of this market.

  10. 10.Make reviews and support a ranking asset. Reply within one business day, keep a public changelog, and ask for a review at day 14 of paid use.

Target: ≥4.7 rating and 30+ reviews by month 12

Why: The incumbent's ~2-star rating is your opening. Reviews are visible on every listing.

  11. 11.Instrument money outcomes: hours of CSV exports saved, and editors served in Sheets without Airtable seats (Airtable charges $20–45 per editor seat a month, billed annually)

Target: Every case study opens with a dollar figure

Why: "Saves $270 a month in seats" sells a $39 plan better than "live sync".

  12. 12.Build the engine so a second source can plug in later, but don't ship a second source before the month-12 checkpoint

Target: One connector interface, one source live

Why: $10k+ probably needs a second product line (see ladder). Keep that option cheap without spreading yourself thin now.

Avoid

  1. 1.HubSpot, Jira or Linear as the source

Why: Each has a native sync: Data sync by HubSpot (129K+ installs), Jira Cloud for Sheets by Atlassian (3.43M+), and Linear's own hourly Sheets sync. You'd be selling against free.

  2. 2.ClickUp or Notion as the first source

Why: ClickUp to Sheets (29K+ installs, 4.7 stars, two-way, updated Jul 2026) and Sync2Sheets (192K+) plus Notion to Sheets (125K+) already own those searches. You'd be #3 at best.

  3. 3.A multi-source "connect anything" connector

Why: Coefficient (654K+), Coupler.io (440K+), Unito (477K+) and API Connector (11M+) own that market with funded teams. Depth on one source is the only way in.

  4. 4.A free plan or lifetime deals

Why: Sync2Sheets' own lesson: removing free roughly tripled paid signups. Free sync users still cost API calls and support time.

  5. 5.Pure Apps Script architecture

Why: Runtime and trigger quotas break it at a few hundred customers. You'd have to rebuild it at the worst possible moment.

  6. 6.Full Drive scope, or any restricted scope

Why: It triggers an annual security assessment and scares IT admins at install time.

  7. 7.Hard deletes or silent overwrites during two-way sync

Why: One lost Airtable table becomes a 1-star review and a Reddit thread. Soft-delete, log and restore.

  8. 8.Full-table polling

Why: It burns Team workspaces' 100k monthly API calls, then Airtable throttles all of the customer's integrations. They'll blame you, rightly.

  9. 9.Marketing it as "stop paying for Airtable seats"

Why: It's the strongest pitch, and also the one most likely to draw a response from Airtable (terms, API limits). Say "share with people outside Airtable" instead. Airtable's terms on this were not checked.

  10. 10.A second source before month 12

Why: Two sources means two API-change streams and two sets of support docs, for one person. Earn the right with $2.5k MRR first.

  11. 11.Custom dashboards, charts or a BI layer inside the add-on

Why: Sheets and Looker Studio already do this for free. Your job is the data pipe, not the chart.

  12. 12.Paid ads before month 12

Why: At ~$32 ARPU and 7% churn, lifetime value is about $450. Search ads for "Airtable sync" compete with Whalesync, Unito and Zapier.

  13. 13.Storing customer records on your servers beyond the sync window

Why: You become a data processor holding business data. Keep only IDs, hashes and the 7-day restore log, encrypted.

  14. 14.Adding features when a checkpoint fails

Why: A miss means the pool is too small or the listing isn't found. Change the source or the channel, not the feature list.
