2. Market Reality Check

Install counts are as shown on Google Workspace Marketplace search and listing pages on 30 Sept 2026. They are cumulative, and include free and domain-wide installs. Parsing was done by a fetch tool, so re-check the key ones by hand before using them externally. Prices are from vendor pages on the same date.

2.1 Who exactly is the buyer?

"People who use tool X and Sheets" is not a buyer. Split the Airtable user base by who pays and why:

SegmentWhat they do in AirtableWhy they want SheetsWillingness to payPain (1–10)Verdict
Individuals and hobby bases (Free plan)Personal trackers and hobby projectsFormulas, sharing~$0–5/mo3Avoid. The Free plan caps API use at 1,000 calls a month, so sync barely works anyway.
Small ops teams (10–200 staff) on Team or BusinessInventory, content calendars, lightweight CRM, events, hiring pipelines, vendor listsFinance models, pivots, Looker Studio, and people without Airtable seats who need to read and edit$19–79/mo if it replaces weekly CSV exports7Best buyer. A recurring weekly job and a budget.
Airtable consultants and agenciesBuild and run bases for clientsClients live in Sheets. Consultants hand over reports.$79/mo, or a partner rate across many clients6–7Channel and buyer. One consultant brings 5–20 bases.
Enterprise Airtable customersLarge governed basesWarehouse and BI pipelinesHigh, but they buy Fivetran or warehouse sync5Not the target. Security reviews and procurement don't fit ~15 hrs/week.
Teams leaving Airtable (after price or record-limit pain)Migrating outSheets as the new homeOne-off4Short-lived revenue. Serve with a one-way export, and don't build for it.

Why the ops team pays: Airtable bills per editing seat, $20/user/month on Team and $45 on Business (annual). Read-only users and share links are free. So in most teams only a few people are in Airtable, and everyone else asks for "the spreadsheet". Today someone exports a CSV every Monday. That weekly chore, plus stale numbers in the finance model, is the pain.

Pain score for the recommended wedge: 7/10. For "one popular tool into Sheets" as described: 5/10, because most sources already have a free or native path.

2.2 The source-tool scan: the decision that matters most

AirtableNo (one-time import only, per third-party guides, Sept 2026)AirTable 2 Google Sheet Sync 3K+, ~2★, free, last updated 12 Sept 2024. Airtable to Sheets (UpSys) 9, new.Coupler.io, Dokin 18K+, Uniquery, Unito, WhalesyncYes: teams paying $20–45 a seatPick this.

Why Airtable wins the scan:

  • It's popular and paid.
  • Its API is good (OAuth, webhooks, 5 requests/sec per base).
  • It has no native Sheets sync.
  • The dedicated add-on is abandoned and rated ~2 stars, so demand exists and supply is poor.

The catch: 3K installs for the only dedicated app is a small demand signal next to Notion's 300K+ across its top two. The Airtable pool is probably a fraction of Notion's. That's why the ladder tops out low.

Watch: UpSys, the maker of ClickUp to Sheets, has just listed an Airtable to Sheets add-on (9 installs). It's a portfolio developer that clones the Sync2Sheets pattern across sources. Four Ducks does the same (Notion Sync for Sheets, Attio for Sheets). Expect a competent competitor within months, not years.

2.4 Vitamin or painkiller?

A mild painkiller for the right team, and a vitamin for everyone else.

  • Painkiller: "Every Monday, someone exports 4 Airtable tables to CSV, pastes them into the finance sheet, and the numbers are wrong by Wednesday. Our 12 warehouse staff can't edit Airtable because seats cost $20–45 each." That's hours a week, plus avoided seat cost.
  • Vitamin: "It would be nice to see my Airtable data in Sheets." That user takes the free incumbent or a one-off CSV.
  • Test: if SheetBridge vanished tomorrow, would the team go back to a weekly manual export? For the ops team, yes, and they'd feel it. For a hobby base, no.

2.5 Market size: venture, lifestyle, or a feature?

A feature, sold as a small business. It's a feature that Airtable or Google could ship, and that hasn't been shipped yet.

Bottom-up (judgment, not verified):

  • Airtable doesn't publish counts of paying teams by plan. No figure was verified.
  • Proxy: the Notion category has ~300K+ installs across its top two add-ons and yields a ~$9k MRR leader. The Airtable category shows ~3K+ dedicated installs, plus multi-source tools' Airtable users (unknown).
  • If the reachable Airtable pool is 10–20% of Notion's, the leader's ceiling is roughly $2–5k MRR at Sync2Sheets' economics. It's higher only if ARPU is higher (team buyers), which is the bet in WHAT-TO-DO-AND-AVOID.md.

Install-to-paid proxy: Sync2Sheets had 400+ paying customers out of 192K+ cumulative installs. That's ~0.2%, dragged down by its free-plan years. At 0.2%, 300 payers need ~150K installs. With a trial-only funnel it may be 3–5× better. Unverified.

Answer:

  • Airtable ↔ Sheets: a lifestyle-scale business, $3–5k MRR likely, $10k possible.
  • "Any tool into Sheets": a venture market, already won by Coefficient, Coupler.io, Supermetrics and Unito.
  • Beyond $10k: add a second source on the same engine. See plans/11.

2.6 Geography

The Marketplace is global, and there's no regulatory tie to one country. Price in USD. Expect mostly US, UK, EU and Australian buyers (assumption; the Marketplace doesn't publish buyer geography). GDPR applies once you process EU customers' records in transit, so keep storage minimal (see 07).
