Verdict

No as described. Go, small, as a Shopify → French approved-platform connector for B2C e-reporting and B2B e-invoices, with a day-45 kill test.

As written in the catalog ("a tax and e-invoicing compliance connector for Stripe, Paddle, WooCommerce, Xero, Zoho or a vertical ERP, for one mandate, reselling an access point's API"), the idea is a category, not a product. Every popular tool already has several connectors for every live mandate. Tier B odds as described: ~1%.

Narrowed to French Shopify merchants ahead of the 1 Sept 2027 small-business deadline, the odds improve to ~2% (~15 hrs/week) / ~4% (full-time) for Tier B. The realistic outcome is $3k MRR at ~15 hrs/week or $8–10k full-time. Not fundable. It doesn't need funding.

The five things that matter

  1. Timing is the whole case. Belgium (Jan 2026) and Poland (Feb/Apr 2026) are live, and their connector markets filled up during the run-in. France's small and micro businesses must issue e-invoices and e-report from 1 Sept 2027, 11 months from now. That is the only big European wave still ahead inside a 24-month window.
  2. The gap is Shopify plus B2C e-reporting. Shopify "is not and will not become" a French approved platform. PrestaShop already partnered with Pennylane, and WooCommerce has B2Brouter from €15/month. A well-known Shopify invoice app (Sufio) does B2B e-invoices only, with e-reporting "planned". A developer testing apps in Sept 2026 wrote that "none handles the full journey end to end".
  3. Transmission is free, so don't sell it. 13 PAs offer free plans to small firms (Tiime, Abby, Pennylane micro, Indy, Shine). You're paid for the Shopify-specific work: pulling orders, fixing numbering and shipping VAT, splitting B2B from B2C, and excluding marketplace flows. That's what free PAs don't do.
  4. The biggest threat is a native deal. If Shopify signs a PA partnership (as PrestaShop did with Pennylane), or Sufio ships e-reporting before summer 2027, the gap closes. Expect one of these within 24 months. Treat the business as worth running while the gap lasts, and as sellable to a PA that wants the installs.
  5. Margin depends on one negotiation. Reselling a PA means paying per transaction. Storecove and Invopop are priced for larger software firms (Invopop: €500/month Pro plus €300/month per government app). You need a white-label PA (B2Brouter, Iopole, Seqino, FactPulse) at ≤10% of your price, or you fail the ≥80% margin test.

Feature sort (headline)

  • Table stakes: Factur-X / UBL / CII output, transmission via a PA, receiving inbox, audit trail, French UI.
  • Differentiators: B2C e-reporting from Shopify orders, Shopify-error pre-checks (numbering, shipping VAT, SIREN), B2B/B2C split at checkout, accountant dashboard.
  • Distractions: multi-country mandates, marketplace connectors in v1, a second storefront platform, AI anything.
  • Liabilities: computing VAT, "guaranteed compliant" wording, becoming a PA, holding the merchant's archive without a legal-archive partner.

Most likely cause of death

The gap closes before the wave peaks. Shopify or a big incumbent (Sufio, Pennylane, Qonto) ships an end-to-end Shopify solution in H1 2027, and merchants take the free or bundled option. Early warning: a Shopify announcement naming a French PA partner, or Sufio's e-reporting going live.

Next 90 days

Do: sign one partner PA by day 30. Sell a €49 audit-plus-pilot to 10 French Shopify merchants with B2B customers by day 45 (the kill test). Ship e-reporting first and submit the app by day 90. Stop: the "any tool, any mandate" framing, and any thought of becoming an access point.
