9. Assumptions and Open Inputs
This idea came from the 30 Sept 2026 micro-SaaS idea catalog (row D3), not from a founder's brief. So team, hours per week available, geography, stage, price and traction were never supplied. Here's what was assumed, and how the verdict changes if each assumption is wrong.
9.1 Assumptions made
| Input | Assumption used | If actually different… |
|---|---|---|
| Target customer | "Marketing agencies" in general, as the catalog row implies | If you already work with home-services agencies, the recommended odds apply. If you know another niche deeply (e.g. roofing agencies on JobNimbus, legal intake), the same engine may fit it. Reassess. |
| Pricing | None stated. The catalog range is $30–400/month. | Recommended: $19 per client per month, $99 minimum (WHAT-TO-DO-AND-AVOID, DO #6). Untested. |
| Geography | US agencies, US contractors | Canada is close. The EU changes products, law and LSA rules. |
| Stage | Idea. No code, no users, no revenue | Any paying agency changes this from "idea" to "evidence". |
| Team | One technical founder, no stated agency background | Home-services agency experience is the single biggest positive change. With no agency access, the verdict is a plain No. |
| Hours per week available | Two columns: ~15 hrs/week and full-time | Below ~10 hrs/week, connector upkeep alone may take most of the time. Odds fall well below the 15-hour column. |
| Traction | None | Even 3 agencies paying for hand-built reports would change the conversation. |
| Funding | None, and none needed | Capital doesn't change the product advice. |
| Market size of the wedge | ~2,000–5,000 US home-services agencies; 40–60% of their clients on Jobber or Housecall Pro | Both unverified. If the real count is far lower, the $10k+ rungs become unrealistic. |
| Competitor coverage | WhatConverts and CallRail link Jobber to revenue; AgencyAnalytics has LSA but not field-service revenue | Only partly verified. If AgencyAnalytics or DashThis already reads Jobber or Housecall Pro, the wedge is closed. Check first. |
| Churn | ~3% monthly revenue churn, as DashThis reported in 2022 | If niche agencies churn at 5%+, the $20k rung is out of reach. |
9.2 Inputs that would change the verdict most (please supply)
- Your hours per week available, and for how long.
- Your connection to home-services agencies: worked in one, ran one, or can reach 30 owners.
- Whether you've built on the Google Ads API or other ad-platform APIs before.
- Any agencies willing to be design partners right now.
- Whether you'd accept a small outcome ($3–10k MRR) as success. The ladder says that's the realistic range.
- Another niche you know well, if not home services. The matching idea may fit it better.
9.3 Definitions used throughout
- Success ladder: chance of reaching each MRR level ($1k, $3k, $5k, $10k, $20k, $50k) by month 24, while profitable (≥80% gross margin).
- Tier A: $1M ARR within 36 months, ≥70% gross margin, ≥50% month-12 logo retention.
- Tier B: $20k+ MRR within 24 months, profitable, ≥80% gross margin, ≥70% month-3 retention.
- Home-services agency: a marketing agency where most clients are residential trade contractors (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, roofing, garage doors and similar).
- Booked job: a job created in Jobber or Housecall Pro that matches a lead by phone number, email or request, within a set time window.
- Match rate: matched leads divided by all leads in the period.
