6. Fundability

6.1 Would I invest at pre-seed or seed?

Pre-seed: No, as described. "Appointment reminders for everyone" is a feature every practice system ships. The one named success is from 2016 and was sold that year. There's no team, traction, pricing or channel.

Pre-seed: No, as the tested wedge either. Two-way WhatsApp confirmations for Indian dental clinics is a real but small gap. Its realistic ceiling is a few thousand dollars of MRR, and EMR vendors can close the gap at almost no cost. That isn't a venture shape.

Seed: No, and not close.

6.2 What a skeptical investor says in the first five minutes

  1. "Weave does $239M a year and Open Dental sells confirmations for $25. Why does the world need another reminder tool?"
  2. "Practo, Eka and every WhatsApp provider can switch this on tomorrow. What stops them?"
  3. "Your price is ₹2,600 a month. How many clinics can one person sell to in a month, and what does each one cost you?"
  4. "The receptionist already sends WhatsApp messages for free. What does a clinic lose if they cancel you?"
  5. "Meta changed WhatsApp pricing in July 2025 and again in October 2026. What's your plan when it changes again?"
  6. "Appointment Reminder was sold in 2016. Why is 2026 a better time for this, not a worse one?"
  7. "What's the no-show reduction in your pilot clinics, measured how, against what baseline?"
  8. "Why this team? Who on it knows dentists?"

If you can't answer 2, 3 and 4 crisply, the rest doesn't matter.

6.3 Proof points that would change my answer

These wouldn't make it venture-fundable. They would make it a sound small business to keep running.

#Proof pointThresholdWhy it matters
1Paid retention in one segment≥50 dental clinics at ≥₹2,000/month with ≥75% month-3 retentionProves it's worth paying for alongside an EMR or a receptionist.
2Measured money outcomeMedian clinic's no-show rate down ≥25% (relative) against its own baseline, plus ≥30% of freed slots refilledTurns "reminders" into "₹20,000+ a month back for ₹2,999". It's the entire sales pitch.
3A channel that isn't the founder≥40% of new clinics from a trade partner or referral by month 9Without it, growth caps at what one person can sell by hand.

6.4 Bootstrap or raise?

Bootstrap, and only as a time-boxed test.

  • The test costs almost nothing. A hand-run pilot needs the WhatsApp Business app, a shared sheet and your time. The v1 is a small web app plus the WhatsApp Cloud API.
  • Revenue arrives in week 3–4 or not at all. Clinics either pay ₹999 for a pilot or they don't. You find out in 45 days.
  • Raising would be harmful. Money would push you towards "all verticals, all countries", which is the version with the worst odds.
  • The likely good outcome is a profitable $1–5k MRR tool, or selling the code and customer list to a local EMR or dental-supply company at month 12–24.

Honest bottom line: the version described isn't fundable and isn't worth bootstrapping. The narrow version is worth 45 days to find out whether 10 dentists will pay. If they won't, put your hours into a stronger idea in this portfolio.
