6. Fundability

6.1 Would I invest at pre-seed or seed?

Pre-seed: No. It's a feature layer on someone else's platform, in a niche with named leaders, with no team, traction or price. As described (on Notion), the platform has already absorbed half the idea. I'd look again only if all of these were true:

  • a founder who has already shipped a Forge app with paying installs;
  • a clear gap the incumbents can't close quickly, shown by customers who left Scroll, Refined or HelpKit for you;
  • 50+ paying teams with churn at or below 2% a month.

Seed: No, and not close. The market is too small for a venture return (see 02).

6.2 What a skeptical investor says in the first five minutes

  1. "Notion shipped Forms and Sites. What stops it shipping search next month?"
  2. "HelpKit has 1,000+ customers and an 'alternative' page against every rival. Why would anyone find you?"
  3. "Scroll Sites has 111 reviews at 4.9 stars and starts at $25. What do you do that K15t can't copy in a sprint?"
  4. "Jira Service Management already puts Confluence articles in a customer portal. Who needs another one?"
  5. "How big is this? Two apps have about 5,600 installs. Even all of them wouldn't make a venture outcome."
  6. "If customers ask AI assistants instead of reading docs, what happens to page views, and to your renewal?"
  7. "Why this founder?"

If you can't answer 2, 3 and 5 crisply, the rest doesn't matter.

6.3 Three proof points that would change my answer

#Proof pointThresholdWhy it matters
1Switchers≥20 paying teams that cancelled a separate help center (Zendesk Guide, Intercom articles, Help Scout Docs, Document360) to use youProves "write once" is a painkiller, not a nice idea.
2The doc-owner loop is used≥50% of customers close at least one generated task a month, for 3 months runningProves the only differentiator is real and drives renewals.
3The Marketplace sends buyers≥50% of new trials from Marketplace search or listing views by month 9, with ≥25% trial-to-paidProves a newcomer can get found against two Platinum partners.

Even with all three, this is a profitable small business, not a venture one.

6.4 Bootstrap or raise?

Bootstrap, or don't start.

  • It's cheap to build. A Forge app, a static-site renderer, a search index and a weekly job. No GPU and no data licences.
  • It doesn't need money to prove itself. 5 paying pilots by day 45 answer the only real question.
  • The ceiling doesn't justify outside money. $3–10k MRR is the realistic range on the evidence found.
  • The exit, if any, is a sale to an Atlassian partner. Acquire.com's median is 3.9x profit (from the catalog). At $5k MRR and ~85% margin, that's roughly $200k.

Honest bottom line: the Notion version isn't fundable and shouldn't be bootstrapped either. The Confluence version is a small, cheap test. Run it only if you already build on Forge.
