Start this week
- Confirm the selling market (recommended: US + UK in USD) and send me your team background.
- List 50 earning creators and 10 talent managers you can reach, and book 15 calls.
- Set up the hands-on kit in Notion or Airtable: deal tracker, rate card sheet, invoice template.
Checkpoints and kill gates
Decide in advance what counts as on track. Missing a checkpoint means changing the buyer or the offer, not adding features.

Miss but ≥$10k MRR: keep running it as a profitable business and extend by 6 months. Below $10k: stop, or pivot.
Do
1.Build only the deal back-office: deal inbox and pipeline, "what should I charge" calculator, live media kit, invoices with automatic payment reminders, one ledger for all income
Target: Every user can say it in one line: "It gets me paid more and faster for brand deals."
Why: It's the only painkiller in the original idea, and no platform does it natively (verified).
2.Sell to earning creators (50k–1M followers, 2+ brand deals a month) and to talent managers
Target: 40 manager accounts by month 24 (~30% of MRR)
Why: One manager brings 10 creators and churns far less than a single creator.
3.Charge in USD to US, UK, Canadian and Australian creators, wherever your team is based. Add India through managers later.
Target: Blended ARPU of $24 or more
Why: Verified: India/SEA trial-to-paid conversion is 15.2%, against 34.2% in North America. Prices can be 3–5x higher.
4.Get people paying before building. Do the work by hand at first (Notion or Airtable), for a fee.
Target: 10 paying by day 30, 20 by day 90
Why: It proves the pain before you spend months coding.
5.Charge from day one. Free: rate calculator + media kit only. Pro $29/mo or $290/yr. Manager $149/mo. Push annual plans.
Target: 60% or more of new paid users on annual plans
Why: Verified: freemium converts 2.1% against 10.7% for paywalls. Annual billing roughly halves churn.
6.Web app only, on Instagram + YouTube (add TikTok only if you're selling in the US). Official APIs only.
Target: v1 shipped in 8–10 weeks
Why: Each extra platform or app is permanent maintenance for a tiny team.
7.Three ways to get customers, all free: (a) a public rate calculator with SEO pages ("how much to charge for a Reel at 100k followers"), (b) manager partnerships, (c) your own posts on Instagram and LinkedIn
Target: ≥40% of new paid users from organic or referral. Cost to acquire a customer paid back within 3 months.
Why: These compound. Paid influencer shout-outs bring users who leave.
8.Make retention the #1 metric. Weekly earnings email, overdue-invoice alerts, onboarding call for every manager account
Target: Monthly churn ≤4% after month 6
Why: The churn check in section 2 shows why.
9.Show the money outcome for every customer: days to get paid, overdue money recovered, rate increase
Target: Every case study opens with a dollar figure
Why: It turns "nice tool" into "pays for itself 10 times over". That's your sales pitch.
10.Collect anonymized deal prices (with consent) and publish a quarterly "Creator Rate Report"
Target: 1,000+ deals logged by month 12
Why: Nobody else has this data. It improves the calculator, earns press and backlinks, and protects you from copycats.
11.Add a creator-industry co-founder or advisor (ex-talent manager or brand-side marketer), with 0.5–2% advisor equity
Target: Signed within 60 days
Why: The biggest single boost to getting customers and being trusted.
12.Keep costs and legal risk low. No video processing, capped AI usage, invoices via Stripe or Razorpay payment links (never hold customer money), GDPR/DPDP-compliant privacy, disclosure checklist on each deal
Target: Tools, APIs and AI below 10% of revenue. Zero customer funds held.
Why: Keeps the margin at 80% or more and keeps you clear of payments licensing.
Avoid
1.The "all-in-one" / "in-and-out" pitch, and the name "Creator Universe"
Why: Creators hear "mediocre at everything", and investors hear "no focus".
2.The auto-editor, or any video processing
Why: CapCut, Descript, Opus Clip and Meta Edits are free or heavily funded. It burns margin and months.
3.Anything YouTube now gives away: video feedback scores, thumbnail tools, trend and idea lists, script writers, YouTube affiliate tagging
Why: Verified, announced 23 Sept 2026: Ask Studio, video A/B tests, dynamic thumbnails, AI affiliate tagging.
4.View and income predictions
Why: You can't make them accurate with allowed data. One wrong prediction screenshot kills trust.
5.A brand marketplace or holding payments
Why: It needs brand sales, licensing and fraud handling. It isn't needed to reach $20k MRR.
6.A mobile app before $10k MRR
Why: Double the build for no proven gain. Deal admin happens on laptops.
7.More than 2–3 platforms before $15k MRR
Why: Every platform adds API breakage and app reviews.
8.Scraping Instagram or TikTok, or keeping YouTube public data longer than 30 days
Why: It breaks platform terms (the YouTube 30-day rule is verified). You'd lose API access.
9.Hobbyist creators as paying customers, and paying influencers to promote you
Why: They don't pay, and they leave fastest.
10.A generous free plan or lifetime deals (e.g. AppSumo)
Why: They cap revenue and flood support with users who never pay.
11.Raising money
Why: $20k MRR doesn't need outside money. Raising adds pressure to chase users instead of revenue.
12.Adding features when a checkpoint fails
Why: A miss means wrong customer or wrong job. Change that.
13.Calling anything "legal", "tax" or "compliance advice"
Why: Contract scans and tax exports are checklists, with clear disclaimers.
14.Collab matching, policy-news feeds, wellbeing features, AI dubbing
Why: People ask for them, but nobody pays, and others already do them better.
