4. Expanded Feature Catalog (What Astrology Users Ask For)
Each feature is classified: TS / D / X / L. Priority is for the recommended wedge (a Vedic-first AI astrologer that calibrates and remembers, web + WhatsApp, for Indian and Indian-origin users). P0 = v1, P1 = next, P2 = later, — = don't build.
4.1 Onboarding and the chart
| Feature | Category | Priority | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Birth details with place search and historical timezone | TS | P0 | Wrong timezone history (e.g. India before 1947, war-time DST abroad) gives a wrong chart. Use the IANA tz database. |
| Accurate Vedic chart engine (lagna, D1/D9, nakshatra, Vimshottari dasha, transits), ayanamsa shown | TS | P0 | Test against a reference tool on 200+ charts before launch. |
| Calibration quiz (8–12 dated, discriminating life-event questions) | D | P0 | Rectifies birth time within a window and produces the "it knew" moment. Show what changed and why. |
| Birth-time confidence meter ("exact / approximate / unknown") | D | P0 | Honest about uncertainty. Unknown times get a sunrise or Moon-chart fallback, clearly labelled. |
| Palm photo scan (entertainment hook) | TS / L | P1 | On-device or process-and-discard. Label as entertainment. Don't use it for predictions. |
| Western tropical chart | TS | P2 | A separate audience. Offer later as a toggle, not a second product. |
| Numerology and name analysis | TS | P2 | Cheap to add, popular in India, weak retention. |
| Tarot, Chinese astrology, I Ching | X | — | Different audiences. |
4.2 The conversation
| Feature | Category | Priority | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chart-grounded chat (the model calls the chart engine, never invents positions or dates) | D | P0 | The core. Every answer cites the placement, dasha or transit it rests on. |
| Memory of the user's life (job, relationship, family, past questions) | D | P0 | Answers get more specific each week. This is the switching cost. |
| Hindi, Hinglish and English | D | P0 | Most Indian users ask in Hinglish. Add Tamil, Telugu, Marathi and Bengali by demand. |
| Safety guardrails (crisis routing, no medical/legal/financial instructions, no death predictions) | TS (for survival) | P0 | Non-negotiable. See 07. |
| Consistency (the same question gives the same core answer) | D | P0 | Store the "reading" per topic, and let the chat reference it. Inconsistency is how users catch AI astrologers out. |
| Family and partner profiles (add a spouse's, child's or parent's chart) | D | P1 | Progressive profiling. Families consult for each other, which multiplies usage. |
| Voice questions and spoken answers | D | P1 | Many users prefer speaking, especially older users and regional-language users. |
| Question credits and topic packs (career, marriage, finance, health-as-wellbeing) | TS (monetization) | P0 | Matches how Indian users already pay per consultation. |
| Escalation to a human astrologer | TS in India / L (ops) | — (later, via partner) | Running a human marketplace is a different, ops-heavy business. Partner or refer later if users demand it. |
4.3 Daily and timing
| Feature | Category | Priority | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Personal daily card (do / avoid, from your transits and dasha) | D | P0 | The daily habit. Short and specific. Shareable. |
| Delivered on WhatsApp (opt-in) and as a web push | D | P0 | WhatsApp is where the daily habit already lives in India. |
| "Favourable window" for events the user plans (muhurat for signing, travel, purchase, puja) | D | P1 | The safe version of "important day" alerts. User-initiated. |
| Panchang, Rahu Kaal, choghadiya, festival calendar | TS | P1 | Commodity content, but expected and a good entry point from search. |
| Transit and dasha-change alerts ("Saturn enters your 7th house next month") | D | P1 | Timely reasons to open the app. |
| "Life timeline" (past calibrated events + upcoming periods) | D | P2 | A strong visual. Shareable. |
| Notifications more than once a day | X | — | Churn and uninstalls. |
4.4 Sharing and growth
| Feature | Category | Priority | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Compatibility (kundli matching / guna milan) with a shareable result | TS / D | P0 | Huge search demand. The shareable result is the viral loop: to see it, the partner enters their details. |
| "My real ascendant" calibrated card for WhatsApp Status and Instagram Stories | D | P1 | Turns the calibration moment into distribution. |
| Referral credits (free questions for both) | TS | P1 | Standard and effective. |
| Gift a reading | D | P2 | Common in India around birthdays and weddings. |
| Social feed or community | X / L | — | Moderation, and it adds nothing to the one-to-one value. |
| Dating based on compatibility | X | — | A different, harder product. |
4.5 Monetization add-ons
| Feature | Category | Priority | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Subscription (monthly, annual) + question credits | TS | P0 | See pricing in 07. |
| Calibrated "life report" as a one-time purchase | TS | P1 | Easy upsell after the quiz. Keep it short. |
| Gemstones, yantras, puja booking e-commerce | L | — | High margin, but fear-based selling of remedies is where the category's trust problems come from, and it adds inventory and logistics. |
| Advertising | X | — | Low revenue, and it undermines a paid product. |
4.6 Net effect
Out of about 40 features, about 14 go into v1. None of them is "a smarter model". They are: an accurate chart, a calibration quiz, grounded chat with memory in the user's language, a personal daily card on WhatsApp, and one shareable loop (compatibility). The product wins by knowing the user, and by being safe enough to keep.
