1. Verdict

Definition of "success"

This portfolio uses one set of definitions so ideas can be compared (see docs/README.md):

  • Tier A (venture): $1M ARR within 36 months, ≥70% gross margin, ≥50% month-12 logo retention.
  • Tier B (profitable business, the default target): $20k+ MRR (≈ $250k ARR) within 24 months, profitable, ≥80% gross margin, ≥70% month-3 retention.
  • MRR ladder: the chance of reaching $1k, $3k, $5k, $10k, $20k and $50k MRR by month 24, profitable at that level.

For this idea, Tier B is a stretch, not the plan. The recommended planning targets are $5k MRR at ~15 hrs/week and $10k MRR full-time.

Odds by version of the idea

All figures are judgment estimates, anchored to the evidence in research/10. There is no verified base rate for bootstrapped B2B micro-SaaS.

As described, niche picked by gut (trampoline park, climbing gym or tour operator; full feature list)~7%~1%<0.5%The niche's booking platform already includes waivers (ROLLER, CenterEdge, Rock Gym Pro + Smartwaiver, FareHarbor). You're selling a feature they already have.
Tour and adventure operators, done well~12% (15 hrs) / ~20% (FT)~2% / ~4%<0.5%Higher prices ($89–449 for Wherewolf), but FareHarbor (23,000+ businesses) gives waivers free, Peek has them natively, and Wherewolf owns the niche. Seasonal churn.
Med spas, done well~8% / ~15%~2% / ~5%~1%Highest willingness to pay, but forms are bundled in the EMR or sold as a $10–65 add-on. HIPAA, a BAA per customer and clinical liability make it a bad fit for a tiny team.
Recommended: US tattoo and piercing studios (state rules engine, minors flow, Square integration, inspection export)~18% / ~30%~3% / ~7%<1%A fragmented market with real legal complexity, where the most common generic booking tool has no forms. Held back by a low price ceiling and many cheap alternatives.
Generic waiver tool for any business~3%<1%<0.5%Head-on against Smartwaiver, WaiverSign, WaiverForever, FlatWaiver ($19 unlimited) and Jotform. No reason to switch.

Fundable in current form?

No. Not as described, and not as recommended.

Waiver software is a small category. The best-known player, Smartwaiver, is estimated at ~$3.4M revenue after ~14 years across every niche. A single-niche version at ~$33 per studio has a realistic ceiling in the low hundreds of thousands of ARR in the US. No venture investor will fund that, and none needs to. See 06.

One-paragraph verdict

The instinct behind this idea is right: waivers look trivial, so people overlook them, but the real work is niche legal wording, record-keeping rules and integrations. The problem is that most niches have already been served by the booking platform itself. Trampoline parks, climbing gyms and tour operators get waivers for free inside ROLLER, CenterEdge, Rock Gym Pro and FareHarbor. Med spas get intake forms inside their EMR, and taking on health data without a compliance budget is reckless. Tattoo and piercing studios are the exception. Rules on minors, notarization, parent presence and record retention differ by state, and breaking them can be a criminal offence. The market is 23,774 small US studios using a patchwork of tools, and the most common generic booking tool, Square Appointments, has no form builder. The catch is price: free and $19 tools already exist, so you win only if the state rules and the minors flow are visibly better than the templates studios download for free. Build it if a $3–10k MRR, low-operations, high-margin business is a good outcome. Don't build it to reach $20k.
