9. Assumptions and Open Inputs
The idea came from row C2 of the 30 Sept 2026 micro-SaaS idea catalog, as a one-line concept with an entry price and competitor evidence. It did not come with a team, location, hours, pricing or traction. Here's what was assumed, and how the verdict changes if each assumption is wrong.
9.1 Assumptions made
| Input | Assumption used | If actually different… |
|---|---|---|
| Target customer | Agencies that manage many client sites (as the catalog says) | If you already run a care-plan agency with 30+ lead-driven clients, condition 1 is met, the pilot costs nothing, and the recommended odds hold. |
| Product | Uptime, SSL expiry, domain expiry and a hosted status page | Anything that stays centred on uptime keeps the "as described" odds (~1.5% at $10k). |
| Pricing | $12–15/month entry (catalog) | The recommended $49 / $99 / $199 per agency is untested. If agencies won't pay $49 by day 45, stop. |
| Form-failure frequency | Unknown. Assumed high enough that ≥1 in 4 accounts sees a real failure in 90 days. | The single biggest unknown. If failures are under 1 per 100 forms per month, the wedge is too weak and the verdict becomes a plain "No". |
| Lead value for clients | Material for law, clinics, dental and trades (hundreds of dollars or more per lead) | Not verified. If agencies' clients are mostly brochure sites with few leads, the pain drops to the uptime level. |
| Care-plan prices | Clustered around $80–300 per client site per month | Taken from vendor blogs (low confidence). If care plans are cheaper, a $1–2/form cost is harder to pass through. |
| Geography | English-speaking markets first (US, UK, Canada, Australia), USD pricing | EU agencies work too, with GDPR processor terms. Pricing in EUR changes little. |
| Hours per week | Two columns: ~15 hrs/week and full-time | The reliability duty (condition 3) is the same at both. At 15 hrs/week it takes a bigger share of the hours. |
| Stage | Idea. No code, no users, no revenue. | Any existing agency customers change the start point from "idea" to "evidence". |
| Team | 1 technical founder, no stated agency background | Agency experience is the biggest single positive change. |
| Funding | None, and none needed | Doesn't change the product advice. |
| Competitor prices and features | Checked on vendor pages on 30 Sept 2026 | They move. Re-check Oh Dear's check types and WP Umbrella's bundle before launch. If either adds inbox-verified form tests, stop. |
9.2 Inputs that would change the verdict most (please supply)
- Agency access. Do you run, or know well, agencies that sell care plans to lead-driven local businesses? How many could you call this month?
- Any data on broken forms. Have you or an agency you know ever measured how often client forms fail? Even anecdotes with dates help.
- Hours per week available, and whether you can keep a 7-day alert duty.
- Location and currency.
- Your stack skills: headless browsers, email infrastructure, WordPress plugin development.
- Why this idea. If the attraction is "monitoring is simple to build", the research says that's exactly why it's crowded.
9.3 Definitions used throughout
- Tier A: $1M ARR within 36 months, ≥70% gross margin, ≥50% month-12 logo retention.
- Tier B: $20k+ MRR within 24 months, profitable, ≥80% gross margin, ≥70% month-3 retention.
- Care-plan agency: a web agency or freelancer that charges clients a monthly fee to maintain, update and watch their sites.
- Silent form failure: a form that shows a success message, or appears to work, while the lead never reaches the intended inbox or CRM.
- Agency account: one paying agency, regardless of how many client sites or forms it monitors.
- Churn benchmarks used: ≤3% monthly logo churn for agency tools that sit inside a monthly care plan (analyst judgment, not verified).
