7. What's Missing: The Gap Between Built and Paid, Renewed, Referred

Assumption: nothing is built yet. So these are gaps between the plan and a business.

7.1 Gaps to pay

GapWhy it blocks paymentFix
No platform chosenYou can't write a listing, pick a community or price anything for "any seller dashboard"KDP only. One listing, one job: bulk pricing and promos.
No proof the gap is still openIf KDP already has a bulk price update, there's no productLog in and check this week. The help pages show per-title editing only.
No pricingUndefinedFree: 35% finder and up to 5 titles. Author $15/mo (40 titles), Pro $29/mo (200 titles, promos, health report), Press $69/mo (unlimited, several accounts). Annual at 10× monthly.
No quantified value promise"Saves time" doesn't justify a card"Reprice 60 books across 6 marketplaces in 4 minutes, with undo", and "find the books still stuck at 35%". Measure hours and royalty uplift per account.
Fear of AmazonAuthors worry a tool will get their account flaggedA plain "how it works" page: runs only when you click, in your own tab, at human pace, stores nothing on our servers, never asks for your password.

7.2 Gaps to renew

GapFix
Episodic job (reprice after a rule change, then nothing)The promo scheduler (monthly), the backlist health email (monthly), and annual plans pushed at checkout.
BreakagesSelector health check on every load, anonymous failure reports, a KDP test account with drafts, a status page and a 24-hour fix rule.
No switching costPrice plans, promo calendars and the full change history live in the extension. Leaving means losing the log and the saved plans. Offer export anyway: trust matters more.
No proof of valueA "what changed and what it earned" report, built from the user's own downloaded KDP report.

7.3 Gaps to refer

GapFix
Nothing shareableThe free 35% finder result ("7 of your books are leaving 35% of royalties on the table") is screenshot-friendly. It's what gets posted in author groups.
No affiliate programme30% recurring for author YouTubers, newsletter writers and course owners. It's how Merch Wizard grew.
No community presenceLive demos in author groups, and answering every "how do I change all my prices?" thread with a real answer (not just a link).
No referral rewardOne free month for each referred paying account.

7.4 Non-product gaps

Distribution

  • Channels that fit: author Facebook groups, Kboards and other author forums, author YouTube channels, author newsletters and courses (affiliates), Chrome Web Store search for "KDP", and SEO around the July 2026 change and "change KDP price all books".
  • Channels that burn cash: paid ads to "authors" (broad and expensive), cold email (small pool, fast reputation damage), AppSumo or lifetime deals.

Positioning

  • Current: "a subscription extension for any neglected seller dashboard". Unsellable.
  • Better: "Bulk pricing and timed promos for KDP. Change every price in minutes, with preview and undo."
  • One sentence, one buyer, one outcome.

Sales motion

  • Product-led: free 35% finder → paid bulk editor. Founder-run demos and onboarding calls for the first 30 accounts.
  • Press plans: a short call and a done-with-you first batch. They're worth it at $69 a month.

Platform, terms and compliance

AreaRequirement
Amazon KDP termsThe KDP terms (last updated 27 Sept 2024) contain no explicit clause on bots, scripts or scrapers. But Amazon may terminate or suspend "if we have concerns with your account, or activity relating to your account". Treat that as the operative risk. Design the product so the activity is indistinguishable from the user doing it themselves, because it is.
Amazon Agent PolicyThe Business Solutions Agreement Agent Policy (effective 4 Mar 2026) applies to Seller Central: agents must identify themselves, follow the policy and stop on request; automation is permitted through the SP-API; browser automation and screen scraping are reported as prohibited. It hasn't been confirmed to cover KDP. Watch for extension to KDP.
Amazon site conditionsAmazon's site conditions of use are believed to bar data mining, robots and similar tools (not re-verified this run). Don't read Amazon product pages. Read only the user's own Bookshelf and pricing pages, while they use them.
TrademarksDon't use "Amazon", "Kindle" or "KDP" in the product name or logo. "For KDP" in a description is compatibility wording. State "not affiliated with or endorsed by Amazon".
Chrome Web StorePolicies last updated 22 May 2025. Single purpose (KDP pricing). No remote code: all logic ships in the reviewed package (MV3). Limited use of user data. No facilitating unauthorised access to websites. Narrow host permissions (KDP domains only). MV2 was switched off in July 2025 and all MV2 extensions were removed from the store on 31 Aug 2026, so MV3 is the only option.
PaymentsChrome Web Store payments were discontinued in 2021. Use ExtensionPay (5% plus Stripe) to start, with a Stripe-direct fallback by month 6. Clear refund terms on the listing, as the store policy requires.
PrivacyBook data stays in the browser (chrome.storage). The server holds only email, plan and licence. Publish a short privacy policy. GDPR applies to EU customers' emails and billing. Anonymous failure reports carry no book or account data.
Mistake liabilityTerms of use should state that the user approves every change and that KDP's own price rules apply. Preview, per-batch limits and undo are the real protection.

Team

  • Not provided. You need one developer who is comfortable with MV3 content scripts, DOM resilience and tests. Ideally you're also a KDP publisher with several titles. Without that, discovery is slower and author groups trust you less.

Metrics and instrumentation

Minimum set (counted without collecting book data):

  • activation: first bulk change applied within 7 days of install;
  • paying accounts by plan, and the share on annual;
  • month-1 and month-3 renewal;
  • share of Pro and Press accounts scheduling a promo each month;
  • breakage count, time to detect, time to fix;
  • sign-ups by channel (community, affiliate, store search, SEO).
