4. Expanded Feature Catalog (What KDP Publishers Ask For)

These are features prolific KDP authors, small presses and low-content publishers commonly ask for, each classified with the same honesty as the stated idea. Being in demand doesn't mean you should build it. Demand signals are analyst judgement from forum and tool-market patterns, not a verified survey.

Legend: TS = Table stakes, D = Differentiator, X = Distraction, L = Liability. Priority: P0 = v1, P1 = by day 90 or soon after, P2 = later, — = don't build.

4.2 Demanded features, classified

A. Pricing and royalties (the core, so lean in)

FeatureDemand signalCategoryPriorityNotes
Bulk price change across selected titles, formats and marketplaces (set, raise by %, round to .99)High among 20+ title publishersDP0The core job. Always preview first.
"Stuck at 35%" finder: titles priced $2.99–12.99 still on the 35% optionHigh since July 2026DP0 (free)The free hook. Read-only, so it's the safest feature too.
Bulk royalty-option switch (35% ↔ 70%) with the price rules checked firstHigh since July 2026DP0Validate against KDP's list-price requirements before submitting.
Print price-floor check after printing-cost or royalty changesMedium-high (June 2025 print royalty cut)DP1Flags books that earn less than expected, or would be rejected.
Marketplace price harmoniser (match US price, convert and round per currency)MediumDP1Currency rounding per marketplace is tedious by hand.
Series price ladder (first book at $0.99 or free, the rest stepped)MediumDP1Rapid-release fiction authors do this constantly.
Undo and change log (every change, before and after, exportable)ExpectedTSP0Trust. Without undo, nobody lets a tool touch 100 books.
Dry-run previewExpectedTSP0The same.
Automatic repricing rules (react to sales rank or competitors)Loud in seller forumsL—Needs scraping Amazon pages and background automation. It's what repricers on Seller Central do through the SP-API, which KDP doesn't offer.

B. Promotions (the recurring job)

FeatureCategoryPriorityNotes
Timed promo scheduler (promo price for chosen titles, marketplaces, dates)DP1The monthly habit that fights churn.
Auto-revert on next visit, with a reminderDP1The user opens KDP, the extension applies the queued change with one click. No background runs.
Promo calendar (what's on sale, where, until when)TSP1Read from your own log, not from Amazon pages.
Promo stacking checklist (BookBub, Freebooksy, newsletter dates)XP2A checklist, not integrations.
Fully unattended promo start at midnightL—That's background automation. Offer the reminder instead.

C. Backlist health and metadata

FeatureCategoryPriorityNotes
Monthly backlist health report (35% titles, price-floor risks, marketplace outliers, missing series links, empty keyword slots)DP1The reason to open the product when nothing's changing. Emailed monthly.
Keyword and category audit (empty slots, duplicates across titles)DP2Read-only from the user's own Bookshelf.
Bulk keyword editD / LP2Useful, but it edits content that Amazon reviews. Ship only after pricing is stable.
Bulk description (blurb) editXP2Rare as a bulk job.
Series linking fixerDP2A frequent support topic for authors.
Trademark and content-policy check on titlesL—Advice you can't stand behind. Link to Amazon's guidelines instead.

D. Organisation and workflow

FeatureCategoryPriorityNotes
Filters and saved views (by series, pen name, format, royalty option)TSP0Needed to pick what to bulk edit.
Tags and folders on titlesXP2The Easy Folders pattern. Helpful, but not a reason to pay here.
Several KDP accounts or pen names in one licenceDP1The Press plan's reason to exist. Switch accounts the normal way; never store passwords.
Team seats (an assistant runs the repricing)DP2Small presses want it. It's a licence feature, not a login feature.
Spreadsheet import and export of price plansTSP0Presses already live in spreadsheets.

E. Analytics and research

FeatureCategoryPriorityNotes
Sales and royalties dashboardX—KDP's dashboard, Book Report and Publisher Champ cover it.
Profit after adsX—Publisher Champ does it.
BSR tracking and competitor researchL / X—Scraping Amazon product pages, in a crowded category (Publisher Rocket, KDSpy, Book Bolt).
Price-change effect report (sales before and after a change, from the user's own KDP report download)DP2The only analytics worth doing: it proves the product's value.

F. Cross-store pricing (the exit valve)

FeatureCategoryPriorityNotes
One promo price across KDP, Kobo Writing Life, Apple Books and Google Play BooksDP2 (month 9+ gate)Amazon has no reason to build it. It's also 4× the breakage surface. Build only if ≥30% of payers publish wide.
Draft2Digital syncX—D2D already manages the stores it distributes to.
Barnes & Noble Press, IngramSparkX—Small share, extra breakage.

G. Trust and operations

FeatureCategoryPriorityNotes
Human-pace execution (one title at a time, visible, pausable)TSP0Looks and behaves like the user, because it is the user.
Selector health check on load, with anonymous failure reportsTSP0Your breakage alarm.
"Not affiliated with Amazon" and "your data stays in your browser" noticesTSP0Chrome Web Store and author trust.
Status page for "is it working with KDP today?"TSP1Cuts support tickets during breakages.
Auto-login or stored KDP credentialsL—Never.

4.3 Net effect

Of about 35 features, about 12 are real differentiators for a KDP backlist pricing tool, and about 8 belong in v1 (bulk price, 35% finder, royalty switch, preview, undo, filters, spreadsheet import and export, human-pace execution with a health check). The promo scheduler and the monthly health report follow by day 90, because retention depends on them. Everything that needs background runs, scraping or another platform waits for a gate or never ships.
