1. Verdict

Why a ladder instead of one target

This idea is assessed at six MRR levels instead of one fixed target, the same as the rest of the portfolio. For a small integration app, the useful question isn't "will it hit $20k?". It's how likely each level is, and what each level costs in hours.

The anchor: what base rate?

There is no verified base rate for bootstrapped B2B micro-SaaS reaching MRR levels from launch. The portfolio's catalog research found that every common statistic ("54% earn $0", "15% reach $1K–$10K MRR") failed verification. Survey data from MicroConf measures founders who already run businesses, not launches. See the catalog, Part A.

The odds below are judgment estimates, anchored to comparables in this exact category:

ComparableWhat it sellsSize (Latka estimate)What it tells you
MailflossDaily automatic cleaning of 40+ connected email platforms, $29–209/mo~$220K a year, 2 staff, launched 2018. Low quality: the founder field reads "John Smith".The idea as described already exists. After ~7 years it appears to sit near $18k MRR.
BouncerCredit-based verification, API, deliverability kit~$7.5M (2025), ~68 staff, founded 2017, no funding reportedThe category is real and can be large, but at 60+ staff, not 1–2.
ZeroBounceCredit-based verification~$10M (2024), ~100K customers, ~$100 average contractLow value per customer. It's a volume game.
ClearoutVerification plus B2B prospecting~$5M (2024), ~33 staffThe money is drifting toward sales prospecting, which is a different buyer.
KickboxVerification~$2.3M (2025), 21 staff, listed as acquiredEven established players are mid-sized.
Warmup InboxInbox warm-up (deliverability)~$1.2M (2024), from the catalog, not re-checkedDeliverability tools sell, but to cold-email senders.

Latka is unreliable (the catalog shows it undercounting some companies by 5x). Use these figures only for rough size.

The "as described" column and the other wedges' columns assume full-time work.

Recommended means the Klaviyo wedge set out in WHAT-TO-DO-AND-AVOID.md, with the 3 conditions met:

  • access to the Klaviyo ecosystem (an agency pilot, or 30 reachable brands in month 1);
  • 5 paid bill audits by day 30 with savings ≥3x the fee and a no-lost-revenue holdout;
  • steady hours for 24 months, with fully unattended operations.

If any one condition is missing, multiply the recommended odds by about 0.6.

These are judgment estimates, not computed statistics.

How to read the ladder

  • $1k–3k is realistic. It takes 14–40 brands, and the saving shows up on their next Klaviyo invoice.
  • $5k–10k needs agencies. Direct-to-brand sales through search and the app store probably stall below that.
  • $20k is a stretch. Mailfloss, a near-identical product with a 7-year head start, appears to be near that level. Klaviyo could ship the feature any quarter.
  • Hours matter less than in consumer ideas. It's a self-serve app with scheduled jobs. The gap between 15 hours and full-time is mostly agency selling and the second platform.

Portfolio definitions (for comparison with other ideas)

TierDefinitionRecommended, ~15 hrs/weekRecommended, full-timeAs described
Tier A (venture)$1M ARR within 36 months, ≥70% margin, ≥50% month-12 logo retention<1%~1%<0.5%
Tier B (profitable business)$20k+ MRR within 24 months, profitable, ≥80% gross margin, ≥70% month-3 retention~3%~7%~1%

Tier B is slightly below the $20k rung because month-3 retention is at risk from one-off cleaners.

Compared with the other ideas in this portfolio:

  • At $1k it matches DocPress, StatementKit and StoreComply (45% / 60%). The saving is easy to show.
  • At $10k–20k it sits with StoreComply and AccessCheck (9% / 17%, 4% / 8%). It's a single-platform app with a real platform risk.
  • It is lower than DocPress and TradeLedger at $10k, because nothing forces the customer to keep paying once the list is clean.

Fundable in current form?

No. It's an integration app on another company's platform, in a category with 10+ funded or profitable players, and the ceiling is one platform's customer base. It doesn't need funding: build cost is low and the first revenue can arrive in weeks. See 06-fundability.md.

One-paragraph verdict

As described, this is Mailfloss with a later start: the same product, the same integrations and the same price band, entering a category where the raw input sells at a fifth of a cent. The Gmail and Yahoo rules didn't rescue it. They reward engagement hygiene and authentication, not address checks, and address checks are getting less reliable on the very mailbox providers that dominate consumer lists. There is one sharp opening. Klaviyo now bills Shopify brands for every active profile, doesn't suppress dormant ones on a schedule, and earns more when you don't. A Klaviyo-only app that finds the dead weight, suppresses it safely, proves no buyers were lost and reports the dollars saved every month has a clear pitch and a measurable result. $1k–3k MRR is a sound expectation. $10k needs agencies and a second platform. $20k is a stretch, and a native Klaviyo feature could end it.
