9. Assumptions and Open Inputs

This idea came from the 30 Sept 2026 micro-SaaS idea catalog (row C1), not from a founder's brief. No target customer, price, geography, team, hours or traction was supplied. Here's what I assumed, and how the verdict changes if each assumption is wrong.

9.1 Assumptions made

InputAssumption usedIf actually different…
Target customerDevelopers with cron jobs (as described); small MSPs (recommended)If you already work at or with an MSP, condition 1 is met and the recommended odds stand. If you've never met an MSP owner, multiply them by ~0.65.
PricingSolo $39, Team $99, Growth $199 a month; blended ~$89At a blended ~$50 (if small MSPs push back), every "MSPs needed" figure rises ~80% and the $10k odds fall by about a third.
GeographySell in USD to the US, UK, Canada and Australia, from anywhereAn India-only or single-country MSP focus shrinks the market and the price.
StageIdea. No code, no users, no revenue.Any paying MSPs would outweigh most of this document.
TeamOne developer, no stated MSP backgroundAn MSP insider is the biggest single boost.
HoursTwo columns: ~15 hrs/week and full-timeUnder ~8 hrs/week, the concierge phase and community selling don't fit. Expect the $1k rung only.
FundingNone raised, none neededMoney doesn't speed up MSP trust. It only extends how long you can be wrong.
Backup products used by small MSPsVeeam, Acronis, Synology, Windows Server Backup, MSP360, Comet, Datto, N-able CoveUnverified. The concierge phase decides the first 8 templates.
Churn2–3% monthly logo churn once parsing is stableUnverified. At 5%, the $20k rung needs ~25 new MSPs a month, and its odds roughly halve.
Trial-to-paid~25%Unverified.

9.2 Inputs that would change the verdict most (please supply)

  1. Your MSP connection. Have you worked at an MSP or in small-business IT? How many MSP owners can you reach this month?
  2. Hours per week available, and whether that can hold for 24 months.
  3. Operations experience. Have you run a service where downtime meant someone missed something important?
  4. Backup products you know first-hand. Each one you know is a template you can write in a day.
  5. Any existing MSP customers or partners who would try a concierge version this month.
  6. Whether you'd accept a $3k–10k MRR outcome. That's the realistic middle of the ladder.

9.3 Definitions used throughout

  • MSP: managed service provider, an IT company that runs other businesses' IT for a monthly fee.
  • Small MSP: 1–20 staff, 5–80 clients.
  • PSA: the MSP's help desk and billing system (HaloPSA, ConnectWise, Autotask, Syncro and others).
  • RMM: the MSP's remote monitoring and management tool.
  • Heartbeat / ping: a signal a job sends when it runs. A missing signal means the job didn't run.
  • Tier A: $1M ARR within 36 months, ≥70% gross margin, ≥50% month-12 logo retention.
  • Tier B: $20k+ MRR within 24 months, profitable, ≥80% gross margin, ≥70% month-3 retention.
  • All odds are judgment estimates, not computed statistics.
